Flights

Apparently the low cost airlines release a batch of flights for the follwoing year every December.

We'll be checking for Easyjet in particular, and also Wizzair to book for summer 2009! Flights to Sofia are easy to come by, leaving a 3 hour drive to Sozopol. Alternatively seek a flight to Bourgas / Burgas, which is a 20 minute drive!!!

Some older pictures

Here are some older pictures from June that I didn't get around to posting at the time!

Latest pictures

There's been a delay in the construction of the swimming pool, but the pictures just in are really encouraging!

We're really pleased with the look of the finishing and i'm now planning a trip to sign off the apartment at the end of August....

Finishing touches

So much has happened. We've chosen the furniture and design of kitchen for the apartment. Alex has been prolific in sending photos of the progress of the builders. The finishing touches to the pool are now being made and we are hopeful that we will be the first to take their holiday at Byzantium in mid August.

Planning a quick trip over in a couple of weeks to go through a snagging list and sign everything off. Anywhere here are the latest images....

Checking on progress

I visited the apartment last month shortly before starting a new job and making a quick business trip to Chicago.

Bulgaria suffered a very hard winter and so the works have been delayed slightly. The estimated completion date is now mid June. While I was there I took the opportunity to wander around the old town of Sozopol, walk down to the rocky headland and check out the two beaches.

The town was very quiet, but with plenty of work being carried out by residents and sailors on their homes and boats! The sea looked extremely inviting, even if the temperature was still a little cold! We know from our visit last year that in only a few weeks time it will be fabulous. I can't wait to dive in!!

Our fantastic solicitor, Galina, has contacted us to say that another trip is needed any time now to compile our snagging list. So we'll be taking advantage of the cheap flights into Sofia and driving across country this time.

Here are some pictures from the April trip. More to come soon, as hopefully will be our new website: www.blackseabreak.net

Kitchens and things

Had an email from Alex who gave us a link to a kitchen manufacturer http://www.arredo3.com/default_eng.htm

We've also found out that Alex has bought another apartment at Byzantium, so as well as being our builder, he will be our neighbour!

More Building Work!!!

The latest pictures are through from Alex the builder, and here for the first time, are some internal shots! Sea views from all of our windows completely justifies our choice of apartment!

Although these pictures were taken in February - (and all looks a little grey!), we're planning a trip out to Bulgaria soon to see the progress for ourselves once the sun begins to shine and we can take some pictures of the finished apartment and local beaches etc.

We're also now discussing the finishing touches, including the supply of a kitchen, with Alex.

Building work

We contact the builders on a regular basis and just after Christmas 2007, Alex (our Bulgarian builder) sent us these images showing the great progress being made. "We are on schedule" he promised! This means everything should be completed in March '08.

The apartment is bigger than I had envisaged and you can see all that is ours from the picture below.

We've been in constant contact with Galina, our Bulgarian lawyer, who is handling all aspects of the conveyancing work - and insisted upon a penalty clause for late completion of work!

Sozopol

Sozopol itself is situated on a rocky headland just south of Bourgas. It's still a favourite destination for many Bulgarians wishing to avoid the busier resorts further north. It's also becoming popular with Scandanavian and Russian tourists. It boasts two fabulous beaches and good selection of shops and plenty of restaurants, many specialising in the fish caught by the fishermen of the town.

Cars are restricted from entering the town centre during the summer, and although much quieter than other resorts, there is a wonderful ten day music festival in September.

When we first visited in June, the temperature was in the mid thirties, but with welcome and refreshing breeze from the sea.

The dream....

was to find a luxury apartment in Bulgaria, somewhere to come and hide from the day to day stresses of normal life. Bulgaria really is an undiscovered gem and Sozopol is hidden away on the south eastern coast of the country.

So in June 2007 we took a trip to see what our money could buy and was pleasantly surprised! Of course the resort of Sunny Beach is becoming more and more popular, with all the building work that comes with it, but for us looking for somewhere away from the crowds, Sozopol ticked every box.

We viewed several options, but the Byzantium development just north of the centre of Sozopol, overlooking the beautiful Black Sea coastline and the fabulous beaches, made our decision very easy!

A two bedroom apartment, sleeping up to six, and with access to the developments own shop, restaurant, gym, swimming pool and Turkish bath (!), will be a luxurious base for anybody looking to holiday, relax and explore Bulgaria.

Here are our pictures of the early building work....,

together with an artists impression of the finished site.
